The Medical Radiation Practice Board does not issue visas or offer any advice on migration to Australia.
To work as a medical radiation practitioner (diagnostic radiographer, radiation therapist or nuclear medicine technologist) in Australia, you need to apply for and be registered with the Medical Radiation Practice Board of Australia. You may also need to apply for a visa issued by the Australian Government Department of Home Affairs.
These two application processes are entirely separate and success in one does not automatically guarantee success in the other.
Information on immigration including visa applications and skills assessments is available on the Australian Government Department of Home Affairs website.
We recommend that you do not apply for work or set up a practice until your registration eligibility is assessed and confirmed. Please note Ahpra and the Board cannot assist you in seeking employment or influence employment outcomes.
The Australian Society of Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy (ASMIRT) and the Australian and New Zealand Society of Nuclear Medicine (ANZSNM) are the assessing authorities for medical radiation practitioners.
They conduct skills assessment for migration purposes which is part of the visa application process.
To apply for a skills assessment, you must contact the relevant assessing authority:
The ASMIRT/ANZSNM can consider an applicant’s work experience when assessing their qualifications for skilled migration. However, the Medical Radiation Practice Board of Australia can consider only an applicant’s formal qualifications when assessing if they are qualified for registration. This is why some applicants may be approved for skilled migration but do not meet the registration requirements of the Board.
